    What is Zero Waste Athlete?

We are an adventure, story-telling and volunteering project called ZeroWasteAthlete.org.

Our goal is simple: get rid of pollution caused by single-use packaging.

Therefore, we are organizing a series of endurance athletics events without any single-use packaging.

We are doing this to galvanize individuals and organizations to create broader systemic shifts towards reuse and refill models.

This is impactful as the production and disposal of single-use packaging is causing harm to wildlife, marine life, food systems, freshwater systems, the great outdoors, and, big picture, worsening the impact of human-caused climate change.

All Zero Waste Athlete events are self-supported, volunteer-driven and community-centered.

    What is your mission statement?

Our mission is to Make Trash History.

Zero Waste Athlete’s whole philosophy is climate-action-over-conversation, iteration-over-perfection and mission-driven-outdoor-adventures.

We believe that outdoors are a great place to demonstrate solutions and drive conversations about the true nature of single-use packaging, food waste, and the need for systemic change.

How does this effort help solve for garbage, plastic pollution and other single-use nuisance?

    In two ways:

    1. “Show, not tell”: This effort is a collective grassroots demonstration that enough people care about removing single-use pollution from our environment and our home planet. By joining us, you are helping drive this message home for the lax approach that businesses and legislators are taking on this issue.
    2. Big picture: We are always, always working to connect our grassroots efforts to the big picture through a variety of campaigns. At the end of the day, we are very clear about one thing –– we are working for broader systemic change. Please watch this space and join us to learn more.

Please note our events are self-supported, self-organized and entirely voluntary.  Zero Waste Athlete is a community-driven effort.  Just like other group rides, group walks and group runs, you ride, run and walk with others at your own risk.  Our team of volunteers and mission-driven zero wasters does not bear legal or financial responsibility for any actions.  By joining us for any events, you fully accept and assume all risks and responsibility for any unforeseen losses, costs or damages.
